100 years ago, 1911
Conductor Penney of the Lake Grove line has recovered a valuable chicken which he bought in the suburbs and lost in the city. The reward of “a penny for the chick,” has not been claimed and the mystery has not been solved, but the chicken has been cooked and everyone seems satisfied. When Mr. Penney bought the bird he anticipated no serious complications, but when his car reached Lewiston the chick had mysteriously disappeared. He had about given up the search when the bird “came back” nicely dressed and stuffed.
50 years ago, 1961
Recently elected officers of the Pastime Club were installed Saturday night at the club rooms on Cedar Street. Installed were Mel Meservier, treasurer; Arthur Raymond, president; Robert Croteau, vice president; Paul Doucette, secretary; and Robert Beaudoin, Conrad Nadeau and Normand Faucher, directors.
25 years ago, 1986
Cindy Howard, a senior at Rumford Junior/Senior High School, recently spoke about her travels in Japan to members of Sue Sorensen’s special education class at Rumford Elementary School. Miss Howard answered questions on the different traditions, food, clothes and toys of Japanese children and gave a slide presentation about her summer spent in various parts of Japan.
