FREEPORT — The Maine Council of Churches invites the public to its annual breakfast event to be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Hilton Garden Inn. Titled “Celebrating Community,” the event will highlight those whose faith inspires them to work for justice. The keynote speaker will be Max Finberg, USDA Director of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. His talk, “Toward a Hunger-Free Maine,” will address the role of the government, community organizations, businesses and faith groups in eliminating hunger in our state.
MCC will honor outgoing Lewiston Mayor Larry Gilbert for his 40-plus year career in public service. Lewiston’s Trinity Jubilee Center will also be honored for its leadership and interfaith and community partnerships. The event also includes a presentation by Secretary of State, the Honorable Charles E. Summers, recognizing the 100th anniversary of MCC’s incorporation.
