JAY — Drug-detecting dogs and police recently checked Spruce Mountain High School north campus and the parking lot and no drugs were found, police Chief Larry White Sr. said Friday.
The dogs did find a marijuana pipe outside of the school, he said. No one was charged, he said, because police could not determine to whom it belonged.
The sweep was done this past week.
“That’s all that was found. Compared to (about) five years ago, this was outstanding,” White said.
Police did a sweep inside the school, checking the exterior of lockers and then went into the parking lot and did a sweep outside of the vehicles, he said.
Maine State Police and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department supplied the police dogs and assisted local police with the check.
Next year, White said, he is hoping that both high schools, including the south campus in Livermore Falls, will be checked next year.
Since drugs showed up on the Jay High School campus several years ago, Jay police and school officials have done random checks at the school and parking lot. One year, marijuana was found in a food service worker’s car, which led to charges and job termination and a marijuana-growing operation in Dixfield.
