DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am searching for someone to repair a damaged (1 1/2 inch square) surface of a Moosehead Furniture table. A pistol gunshot was accidentally discharged onto the table while putting the safety on. The table is more than 20 years old, but is in perfect condition with the exception of this damage. I hope someone can help me. — No Name via email

ANSWER: Sun Spots has had this question more than once and only received one response from readers.

Catherine Raynor of Morin’s Fine Furniture in Lewiston, 782-7511, www.morinsfinefurniture.com, wrote to say that her company does all manner of furniture repair and refinishing and has been doing so for 81 years.

In addition, Sun Spots had two pieces worked on at New Look Refinishing (Wings Mills Road, Mt. Vernon, 685-4540), which is near her home, and was pleased with the results.

If anyone else offers furniture repair and/or refinishing in the area, please write and let Sun Spots know.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: What is the deal with the old Getty service station at the corner of Russell and Sabattus streets? — No Name, Lewiston

DEAR SUN SPOTS: When I was at the Fryeburg Fair this year, I was going through the agricultural building and saw a beautiful afghan. It had round medallions made of variegated yarn in the centers and then black to finish the square.

If the person who made this afghan sees this and would be willing to share the pattern or tell me where they purchased it, I would love to have it. This was the one afghan that really caught my eye. — E. Hiscock, P.O. Box 107, East Dixfield, ME 04227

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Geiger Elementary School PTO would like to ask Sun Spots readers for help with its annual calendar raffle.

For those not familiar with calendar raffles, we start by soliciting donations from the community. We then create a calendar — in this case, for the month of March 2012. Each day on the calendar is assigned a prize. In February, the students sell these calendars to their friends and family. Each calendar sale is a “ticket” and is good for 31 chances to win. Each day in March, a ticket is pulled and the ticket-holder wins that day’s prize.

This raffle raises money to support programs and events not covered by our regular school budget. Last year, the PTO sponsored enrichment opportunities and visits from artists-in-residence Michael Wingfield and Randy Judkins and the Chewonki Traveling Natural History Programs.

As an advertising opportunity, we include our donors’ contact information with every calendar and post that list on our website. We welcome any contribution, large or small.

In the past, we have raffled off craft items, gift certificates, services, household items, electronics and even cash. To donate, please contact me at 795-1326 or [email protected]. — Tracey Miller
