OTISFIELD — John R. Raymond, 91, of Otisfield, passed away at his home on Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11, with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Lynn, Mass. on March 13, 1920, the son of George and Annie H. Raymond. On March 28, 1942, he married Hazel Miller in Everett, Mass. John joined the Navy in 1943 and served in the Marshalls and Mariana Islands. During his enlistment he was transferred to the third battalion, 20th Regiment, 4th Marine Division. After securing the islands of Saipan and Tinian, he was reassigned back to the Navy Seabees, 121st battalion. In 1946, John and Hazel moved to Otisfield, where they raised their family. He retired from AC Lawrence Leather Co. in 1981 and owned his own business, Ray’s Sheet Metal, in Norway, for many years

He was a member of Oxford Lodge No. 18 in Norway, Kora Shrine in Lewiston, Scottish Rite Valley of The Androscoggin, Lewiston Commandery No. 6, Knights Templar, Oxford Council, Oxford Chapter, Order of The White Shrine, Order of The Odd Fellows, Rebekah’s, Oxford Chapter No. 168 O.E.S., the Marine Corps League Western Maine Detachment, the American Legion Unit No. 82 Norway, and the VFW Post 9787 in South Paris.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Hazel, of 69 years; sons, David and his wife, Mary, Brad, Larry, Ron and his partner, Jody, Ralph, special sons John and his wife, Jeanne, Kenny and his wife, Linda; granddaughters, Paula, Kelly, Tami, Tracey, and Lorie; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother and father; his brother, Curtis; and his sister, Marion.
