NEWRY — Giving back to the community and helping those less fortunate is Sunday River’s goal for this weekend.

The resort will be hosting its annual Tin Mountain Round Up on Nov. 19-20. The event is part of the resort’s corporate initiative to give back to the community through in-kind giving, food drives and events.

The goal is to raise money for programs such as the Bethel Rotary Club’s Toys for Tots, Maine Handicapped Skiing, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Sunday River’s Charitable Fund.

This year the event will benefit the local Andover Food Bank. The resort is asking skiers and snowboarders to bring three or more items of nonperishable food and in return they will receive $10 off on lift tickets.

The Andover Food Bank was established to provide emergency food to those who find themselves in short-term crisis situations and without means to buy food.

As an interim measure, while families and individuals await services, the Andover Food Bank boxes and provides 10 balanced meals. This is enough food to last for three days while appropriate agencies work on providing adequate services.

“As the holidays approach, we are reminded of those who may not be as fortunate,” Dana Bullen, resort president and general manager for Sunday River, said. “The Tin Mountain Round Up has become a tradition for us, like any other Thanksgiving Tradition, but also these types of annual events add to the overall guest experience, create lasting memories for those who participate, and are beneficial to the community.”
