LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Nov. 10 were: first place, Clara Mennealy and Roger Labbe; second place, Norm Bissonnette and Don Maillette; third place, Monique Nadeau and Terry Chambers; fourth place, Sandy Verrill 3 player table; fifth place, Sandy Oliver and Anita Cusson.

The next game will be played at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17.

Travelers meeting

MECHANIC FALLS — Members of Twin City Council 160 of the United Commercial Travelers of America will meet at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at Bucknam Oaks. A potluck dinner will be served at the close of the business meeting. Members are reminded to bring donations to the food basket. All members and guests are welcome.

Historical society

MECHANIC FALLS — The Mechanic Falls Historical Society will hold its monthly open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19.

Area citizens are encouraged to stop by and view the many artifacts, photographs, scrapbook collections and other items of historical significance that pertain to the community. No admission charge.

Symphony

AUBURN — The Augusta Symphony Orchestra will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at High Street Congregational Church, 106 Pleasant St.

The cost is $10 for adults and is free for children and students.

Art club

AUBURN — The Auburn Art Club will meet at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, at Park Avenue Methodist Church under the direction of president Bonnie Ross. Members are encouraged to bring a friend along to this annual guest day to see what Art Club is all about.

Debbie Dwyer is the chairman of the hostess committee and will be assisted by Kathy Gleason, Melanie Ness, Aldo Reynolds and Jean Ness.

The speaker will be Michael Ranucci, a well-known local artist. He divides his time between his studio in his home and working in “plein-air” sessions throughout Maine. His work is exhibited frequently at national shows and is widely collected.

Weight loss info

LEWISTON — Central Maine Bariatrics will host an informational program about weight loss surgery from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, in the Chairmen’s Rooms on the lower level of the 12 High Street Medical Office Building.

Bariatric surgeons and other members of the bariatric surgery program’s professional staff will provide a general overview of obesity and weight loss surgery options. The program will include a question and answer session.

There is no charge for participation. The program is offered on the first Wednesday and third Monday of every month.

Pie sale

MECHANIC FALLS — The Mechanic Falls Library will host the annual pie sale starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, the day before Thanksgiving, at the Mechanic Falls Town Office in the Town Council Chambers. The sale will go on until all the pies are gone or until 5 p.m. Anyone who would like to donate pies can leave them at the Town Office starting at 7:30 a.m.

Library delay

MECHANIC FALLS — The Mechanic Falls Library has experienced a delay in reopening due to shelving problems. Plans are to reopen after the first of the year.

The children’s room has been painted with a mural by Whitney and Haley Frost, young ladies from Mechanic Falls. The library walls are finished and ready to receive the shelves when they arrive.

Free turkey dinner

LEWISTON — On Nov. 24, Hope Haven Gospel Mission will provide a free Thanksgiving Dinner between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at 209 Lincoln St. The meal will be available to shut-ins as well.

NEW GLOUCESTER — A community Thanksgiving dinner will be held at the New Gloucester Bible Church, 218 Lewiston Road, from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 24.

Snorkel adventure

LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine will offer a special program, Snorkel Adventure for ages 7 and up, from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25.

The course will cover the fundamentals of snorkeling in a safe and positive way in a two-hour pool session. Students will be fitted with a professional quality snorkel and mask that they get to keep at the end of the course. Special attention to proper equipment and care are an integral part of the course. Students must be competent swimmers.

Cost for the program is $65 per participant. Call the YWCA at 795-4050 to sign up.

Tree lighting

NEW GLOUCESTER — The annual New Gloucester tree lighting will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, at the New Gloucester Town Hall, Route 231. Highlights of the afternoon include the lighting of “Tiny Timber,” seasonal songs sung by the Gray-New Gloucester High School Chorus, open house and refreshments at the New Gloucester Public Library and a History Barn open house displaying the exhibit “Thanks To Those Who Served.” All are invited to attend.

Couponing class

READFIELD — Maranacook Adult Education will offer “Couponing 101: Save Hundreds of Dollars” with instructor Amanda Fontaine from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Maranacook High School.

In this one night fun class, learn how to save hundreds of dollars on everything. Instantly save money on grocery bills. Those who currently have a coupon system are asked to bring it to class along with any expired coupons.
