CANTON — Longtime Administrative Assistant Kathleen Hutchins has resigned for medical reasons, she said Wednesday.

Hutchins, who is town clerk, submitted her letter of resignation Nov. 8 to the Board of Selectmen.

“I had taken a lot of medical leave and then I had to have surgery,” she said Wednesday. “I didn’t feel it was fair to the town to continue taking leave, so it was best for me to resign. Maybe someday I can go back as deputy.”

Hutchins said she has held the clerk’s position for about 10 years.

Deputy Clerk Kelly Cavanaugh will perform the clerk’s duties until Hutchins’ replacement is named by selectmen, Hutchins said.
