WILTON — Police say a canine search for the second occupant of a stopped van was conducted Tuesday evening in the Burgess Hill area but the person was not found.

With information about suspicious conduct, area police departments were looking for the van, Wilton police Chief Heidi Wilcox said. Police encountered the vehicle Tuesday evening during patrol and stopped it on Route 2 near the hill area to investigate.

An occupant, Joshua Pollis, 26, of West Paris who has ties to a Jay address,  told police he wasn’t driving and someone else in the van took off.

Police learned Pollis was wanted on a Maine warrant for operation after suspension and a New Hampshire warrant for failure to appear on a theft charge, she said. Police arrested him and he was taken to the Franklin County Detention Center.

A state police tracking dog, members of Jay Police Department and Sandy Burke from Franklin County Sheriff’s Department helped search for the missing person. They walked around residences near the scene.

Police have not confirmed that there was someone in the vehicle who took off, she said.
