PORTLAND — Linwood E. Bell, 71, died unexpectedly Friday, Nov. 18, at  Maine Medical Center.

Born April 7, 1940, in Cornish, he was the son of the late Edward G. and Dorothy Harrington Bell.

He was a graduate of Husson University and retired in 1999 as Senior and Managing Partner of PWC (Coopers & Lybrand Portland) having been affiliated with them since 1967.

Linwood served on the board of directors for L.L. Bean, Freeport, board of directors for Geiger Bros., Lewiston, president of Boy Scouts of America, Portland, chairman of the United Way in 1984, co-chair of the Special Olympics, chairman of the 1995 Governor King’s State Budget Task Force, vice chairman of finance for the USS John F. Kennedy City of Portland Host Committee, president of the Cumberland Club, 1988 – 1990, and co-chair for the Senatorial Fund Raising Campaign for Susan Collins in 2002.

His special achievements included an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration from Husson University, the Pine Tree Council Distinguished Citizen 1999 and the Silver Beaver Award Boy Scouts of America 1992.

Lin was an avid Jets fan and there was no one who loved a good wager more than he. Golf was an important part of his life, especially when he was playing with his son and grandson.

Lin and his wife split time between Falmouth, Maine, and Naples, Fla., living on golf courses at each location furthering his love for the game playing with his wife.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife abroad; special walking and hiking trips they did with friends in England being a favorite.

Besides his deep love for his family, Lin will always be remembered for his great social skills and his many treasured friendships.

He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Jill, of Falmouth and Naples, Fla.; his son, Lance Bell and his wife, Beth, of South Portland; his daughter, Deborah Rand of Portland; and three grandsons, Travis Rand, Nathan Rand and Jordan Bell.
