DEAR SUN SPOTS: I love your column. You have helped so many people. I hope you can help me. I am looking for an electric mixer with a dough hook. I’ve looked all over, but all I can find are the ones with two whips. They used to sell some with a dough hook. I would appreciate it if someone has one that I can buy.

I’m also looking for a plastic dish to coat food with flour before you fry it. It has two parts about 4 inches deep with a center with holes in it. You put flour in the bottom with the food to coat, shake it good and flip it over. The flour goes through the holes and the food is ready to fry.

If anyone out there can help me find these items, please call. — Anita, Lewiston, 783-7623

ANSWER: The electric mixer you seek is available at several sites online (cooking.com, amazon.com and kitchenaid.com), but Sun Spots suspects you wouldn’t have written to her if that option appealed to you. How do you feel about Portland? There are two cooking stores there:

Williams-Sonoma (Maine Mall, 621 Maine Mall Road, South Portland, ME 04106, 772-9175) has a large selection of mixers, both hand and stand. LeRoux Kitchen (161 Commercial St., Portland, ME 04101, 553-7665) appears to have a much smaller selection, with only one dough hook model online.

The dough hook attachment appears to be more commonly available on stand mixers, but, according to their website, Williams-Sonoma has some hand mixers with several attachments, including a dough hook.

Sun Spots did not have any luck with your flour coater. She checked several sites, including Tupperware.com, but drew a blank. Perhaps readers will have suggestions.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Can you find the address and telephone number for a Bosch Magic Mill bread machine, MMAB101-2? I need a cap measuring cup and a dough blade.

Thank you for your help. I read your column every day. — No Name, Auburn

ANSWER: Sun Spots wasn’t able to find your parts at www.bosch-home.com/us/ (it’s a German company), but she did get the phone number and address you requested:

BSH Home Appliance Corp., Attn: Bosch Customer Support, 5551 McFadden Avenue, Huntington Beach, CA, 92649, 1-800-944-2904, htb-questions@bshg.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Could you or your readers tell me if there is any place that sells plastic dough scrapers in the local area? They are used when making bread dough.

Also could you find out when the custard stand in New Gloucester will be open in December? Thank you in advance for the help. — Sandy, slc1940@gmail.com

ANSWER: That’s what that thing is! Sun Spots had one appear in her kitchen some time ago but didn’t know what it was for.

As for buying a new one, Sun Spots does not know of local sources (Williams-Sonoma has a metal pastry scraper but no plastic).

There are several sites online, including breadtopia.com, bakedeco.com and kingarthurflour.com. These devices are extremely inexpensive, but if Sandy sends Sun Spots a mailing address, she will gladly save Sandy a couple bucks and send her the one she has.

As for the custard, there was no answer or message at Hodgman’s phone and the email address Sun Spots had for Joyce Hodgman bounced back.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a 6-quarter Mirro Matic pressure cooker that needs a new gasket. Thank you. — No Name, No Town

ANSWER: The gaskets are available at several places online, including mirropressurecookers.com (Sun Spots couldn’t find their phone number on their website), cookingandcanning.net (800-851-3266) and www.pressurecooker-canner.com (Pressure Cooker Canner Co., 12629 South Tuthill Road, Buckeye, AZ 85326, 800-851-3266).
