LEWISTON – Mechanics Savings Bank awarded $1,000 Banking on the Future Scholarships to Lewiston High School graduates Michael St. Pierre, Tamara Roy and Devin Deschenes.

St. Pierre was a member of the National Honor Society, the National Technical Honor Society and the Civil Rights Team. In 2011, he was named to the Presidents’ Educational Award Program. Active in Lewiston Regional Technical Centers’ culinary arts program, he earned the Kenneth C. Jordan Student of the Year Award, the LRTC Green Ladle Student of the Year Award, the Chili/Chowder Scholarship and the Silver Medal For Food & Beverage Service in the Local Skills Championship. He was a member of the LHS soccer, swimming and baseball teams.

St. Pierre holds the rank of Eagle Scout and has participated in a number of community service projects with Maine State Parks, local soup kitchens and the Great Falls Balloon Festival. He is attending the New England Culinary Institute in Vermont. His career goal is to become a head chef.

Roy served as class president for two years and was a member of the National Honor Society, the LHS Leadership Board, Outing Club and “L” Club. She was a three-year member of the LHS varsity ice hockey team and the varsity softball team, serving as captain her senior year. Roy received the 2011 DAR Citizenship Award and was named to the 2011 KVAC All-Academic Team for softball and ice hockey. Roy volunteered for the Dempsey Challenge, Spring and Winter Special Olympics, the MS Walk and the Farwell Pumpkin Festival.

Roy is attending the University of Maine in Orono and majoring in athletic training. She hopes to work as a team trainer and possibly continue her education in the field of physical therapy.

Deschenes served as manager for the LHS varsity lacrosse, hockey and soccer teams and was a waiter the The Green Ladle restaurant. He earned the Nick Babcock Leadership Scholarship and the Franco-American scholarship. He was a member of the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps throughout the four years of his high school career. Deschenes volunteered at St. Mary’s Medical Center in the mailroom and donated more than 40 hours of his time to numerous community service projects.

Deschenes is currently attending Central Maine Community College and plans to transfer to the University of Southern Maine to major in computer science. His career goal is to become a network engineer at a large corporation.
