BETHEL —The Mahoosuc Community Band will present its holiday concert on Sunday, Dec. 11, at the West Parish Congregational Church.

The band will play traditonal yuletide music as well as new program additions, including “Amazing Grace,” arranged by Frank Ticheli; A Copeland tribute arranged by Clare Grundman; and “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” by Carl Strommen.

Jennifer Cooper, choral director at Gould Academy, is guest conductor for this concert and season.

Refreshments will follow the concert when attendess can meet the musicians.

The band has been bringing music to the Bethel area for about 18 years. It was formed to share music when SAD 44’s music program was eliminated for a few years as a cost-saving effort. Since then, both the SAD 44 music program and the Mahoosuc Community Band have grown.

The community band now includes people from Hanover, Rumford, Dixfield, Waterford, Woodstock, Greenwood, Bethel, Albany, and South Paris. The group rehearses Monday nights from 7 to 8:45 p.m. at the church. School musicians are encouraged to join the rehearsals.

Anyone interested in joining should contact Patricia Boyle-Wight, director, 824-8453 or [email protected];or Kathleen DeVore, president, 875-2364 or [email protected].

The concert will begin at 4 p.m. Donations help with music and instrument purchases and ongoing costs to run the volunteer community band.
