Kristina Therriault of Lewiston, second from right, and Linda Doughty of New Gloucester, right, put pieces of pumpkin and apple pie out during a Thanksgiving meal at the Root Cellar in Lewiston on Thursday. Therriault, her husband, Mike, far left, Julie Hayman of Sabattus, second from left, and Doughty joined about 100 volunteers who provided a free meal to anyone who came. “We are here not to be served but to serve others,” said Chris Pope, director of the inner-city ministry. He said the need for emergency food boxes has increased two and a half times since one year ago. Pope believes that because of the increased need, they planned to feed 400 people during this year’s holiday, up from 275 last year. Parishioners from 10 to 12 churches helped cook, serve and clean up during the Thanksgiving meal, Pope said.
