LEWISTON — The Center for Wisdom’s Women, a drop in center for women, will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3. The center has much to celebrate just into its third year of operating independent of the founders, as it reopens in a newly renovated facility.

The center was begun by the Daughters of Wisdom in 1999. The founders had to leave the work in 2008 and a local group of women organized to continue it, with Trinity Church becoming the fiscal sponsor.

Improvements to their location include a larger activity room and living room, a kitchen, handicapped bathrooms (one with a shower), new larger windows, energy efficient lighting, heating and air conditioning, and wonderful bright yellows in community spaces. A project of Lewiston Housing Authority, the attached Healy Terrace is being restored to become low income senior housing, due to open early in 2012.

Light brunch snacks will be provided for the open house by the center’s “Wise Women Cooking Club.” Denise Dill, a local singer/songwriter, and friends will provide two sets of music. Information on the center’s work and programs will be available. There will be drawings for several door prize baskets.

The center is at 97 Blake St., between Pine and Ash streets. Parking is available in the lot just inside the complex. A wish list of items needed for the new kitchen and bathrooms is posted on the center’s Facebook page. Donations are welcomed.
