100 years ago, 1911

Joseph Dulac, a plumber, was seriously injured Saturday morning in a fall from the top of the three-story Shapiro block, Bates and Birch streets, on which he was working at the time. Several bones were broken and he was badly bruised. Early this morning it was stated that he was resting comfortably considering the extent of his injuries and it is believed that he will recover.

50 years ago, 1961

Knapp Bros. Shoe Co. will entertain more than 1,000 employees and guests at a dinner Saturday in Lewiston Memorial Armory. Entertainment will be presented by 48 employees and dancing will complete the event. The program will consist of excerpts from the musical “Carousel,” “Show Boat” and “The Music Man.” Raymond Chouinard has arranged the show, to be directed by Mr. and Mrs. Bert Cote.

25 years ago, 1986

PARIS — Olive Moore, Oxford County register of deeds, was surprised last week at a retirement party given in her honor by her office staff.

The event was attended by 95 persons, including her 90-year-old mother, Stella Brown, her son Larry and daughter Laurene. Others included 13 registers from throughout Maine, selectmen, county commissioners and lawyers.

Mrs. Moore will retire in January after serving 20 years as register for Oxford County.
