FARMINGTON — Howard S. Jackson, 89, a longtime resident of Intervale Road, Jay, died Sunday morning, Nov. 27, at Orchard Park Nursing Home, where he had resided for the past two weeks.

He was born Oct. 15, 1922, in Jay, the son of Howard P. and Lizzie M. Purington Jackson. He was a graduate of Farmington High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He had worked in the steam and the filter plants for International Paper Company and James River at the Otis Mill in Jay until his retirement.

On Feb. 1, 1947, in Jay, Howard married his wife of 53 years, Evelyn Hardy. She passed away April 8, 2000. He was a faithful member of the Jay Baptist Church in Jay; a member of the International Paper Quarter Century Club; Frank L. Mitchell V.F.W. Post No. 3335 in Jay; and the George Bunton Post No. 10 American Legion in Livermore Falls.

He enjoyed carpentry, gardening and traveling. He was a loving and caring man and especially enjoyed time spent with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by those that knew him.

He is survived by his son, Howard D. Jackson and his wife, Leita, of New Vineyard; and his daughter and her husband, Constance and Edward Volterman; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn Jackson; and his grandson, Edward Volterman Jr.
