AUBURN — On Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m., the Auburn Public Library will sponsor an event with Donn Fendler as he gives a presentation on the new graphic novel, “Lost Trail: Nine Days Alone in the Wilderness,” written with co-author Lynn Plourde and illustrated by Ben Bishop.

The event will be held in the library’s Androscoggin room at 49 Spring St. and is free and open to the public. Books will be available for sale and autographing. For further information, call the Auburn Public Library at 333-6640.

For nine days in 1939, 12-year old Donn Fendler was lost, alone in the wilderness around Mount Katahdin in northern Maine. The story of his harrowing ordeal and rescue was told in the 1939 classic, “Lost on a Mountain in Maine.” Since Fendler retired in 1990, he has traveled throughout New England telling his tale to audiences young and old.

In “Lost Trail,” Donn tells the story again – with added details about what happened before he was lost, after he was lost and the search and rescue efforts. This graphic novel pulls readers into the middle of the action.

Fendler, who lives seasonally in Newport, teamed up with Winthrop children’s book author, Lynn Plourde. In 72 pages of illustrations, Ben Bishop of Portland brings the story to life. Bishop is a comic book artist, toy designer and illustrator, and author of original graphic novels.
