LEWISBURG, Pa. — Evelyne M. Langlais, 82, of Lewisburg, passed away, Tuesday, Nov. 29, at her home.

She was born Feb. 18, 1929, in St Basile, Quebec, Canada, a daughter of the late Armand and Lena (Godin) Chastenay. In 1951, she married Louis P. Langlais, who preceded her in death in January 1989.

Evelyne graduated from St. Damien Normal School and became a teacher in Canada, where she taught in a one-room school house in the Province of Quebec. Following her marriage to Louis, she began her new calling as a full time mother.

She was a member of St. Athanasius-St. John’s Parish in Rumford, and also recently of Sacred Heart Church, Lewisburg. In 1994, she was awarded the title of Maine Mother of the Year after being nominated by her local Catholic Church family. This was an honor she cherished that gave her the opportunity to travel to Salt Lake City and meet other state winners. Evelyne spent her life devoting her time to her family and those in need and less fortunate. She also loved birds, reading and music.

Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law and two daughters and one son-in-law, John and Tricia Langlais of Fayetteville, Ga., Lorraine Langlais of Newport, R.I., Lisa and Ian Proud of Lewisburg, Pa., Lester and Kathryn Langlais of Salisbury, N.C., Justin and Sue Langlais of Mooresville, Ind., and Michael and Cindy Langlais of Glenburn, N.D.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Francoise Chastenay of St. Damien, Quebec, Gaby and Francois Paquet and Jeannine and Norman Mottard, all of St. Basile, Quebec; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Jean Chastenay, who died at the age of 5 and for whom Evelyne cared for the last months of his life.
