JAY — A local boy was injured Wednesday after the car he was driving struck a tree that had fallen across the East Jay Road.

Jacob Roy, 17, of Jay, was driving toward home at about 7:02 a.m. when he came up over a crest and saw a tree across the road, officer Nicholas Gulliver said. With all the debris in the road, including branches, he couldn’t stop the 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier from hitting the tree, he said.

The tree blocked the entire road.

“There wasn’t any way he could have missed it,” Gulliver said.

The accident happened in front of 916 East Jay Road, a short distance from Roy’s home.

Roy was treated by a NorthStar Emergency Medical Services ambulance crew and was released at the scene, he said.

Gulliver estimated that damage to the car was at least $2,000. It had to be towed.
