Canton officials will soon board up the old fire station beside Route 108 and the Whitney Brook outlet from the Lake Anasagunticook dam. Selectman Shane Gallant said Thursday afternoon that the state fire marshal asked them to secure the building. “We’re going to board (the windows) over and make sure they can’t open the doors; screw or board them shut,” Gallant said. Selectman Scotty Kilbreth said Thursday that the board chose not to remove the building because people are interested in possibly redeveloping it.
A large crack has opened in the old Canton fire station wall beside Route 108 and a large roof support beam inside has fallen. The state fire marshal told fire Chief Shane Gallant to board up the building. Selectman Scotty Kilbreth said Thursday that Canton took the property by eminent domain in 2009.
