LEWISTON — On Oct. 4, the Saint Dominic Academy first grade classes gathered together to experience a fun-filled day in Retreat. The theme of the retreat was “The Eucharist.”

Their day began with school Mass. The students then returned to school to meet with Fr. Bob Vaillancourt, Deacon Steve Harnois, Mrs. Melanie Hatfield, Mrs. Pauline Collette and Mrs. Hattrupp, all of whom would be helping them to have a better understanding of the meaning of the Eucharist.

Fr. Bob taught some new songs. The students were then divided into five groups with parents and teachers as leaders. The students travelled throughout the school, church and Senior Hall with the leaders to attend and experience different lessons about the Eucharist. They learned how their hands can be a “manger” to receive Christ in the Eucharist. Then the students learned that the Eucharist is very special food and compared how our bodies need food for nourishment and our souls need “spiritual” food.

They also had a chance to experience Eucharistic Adoration in the chapel. Fr. Bob helped the students to know what it is like to be a saint through the words of the school song and Deacon Steve talked about Mass, sharing some of the new wording that is being used.
