Program on Haiti

NORWAY — A public presentation by Ken Jones, “Haiti: (Not) Building Back Better,” will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at Fare Share Commons, 443 Main St. Refreshments will be available at 6 p.m.

USM teacher Ken Jones gained a first-hand view of what’s happening in Haiti when he joined a recent delegation there organized by the solidarity group, School of the Americas Watch. Jones’ presentation, with literature and photos, will be followed by discussion.

Food mobile

BUCKFIELD — Good Shepherd Food Mobile will be at the Buckfield town hall parking lot from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12. This food mobile is limited to residents of Buckfield and Turner only. If weather is bad, please call 336-2230 to check if food mobile is still due to arrive. There is no paperwork to fill out, or income requirements. If you need food, you are eligible.

Food pantry open

OTISFIELD — The Food Pantry will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at Spurrs Corner Church, Route 121. The pantry is open the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 10 a.m. to noon, and the second Monday of each month from 5 to 7 p.m. For more information, call 583-4780 or 627-4329.

AARP Christmas party

PARIS — The Oxford Hills Chapter, AARP, will hold its annual Christmas party on Monday, Dec. 12, at the First Congregational Church, East Main Street.

Lunch will be served at noon, and reservations are required for all attending by calling Ruth at 744-9069, by noon on Friday, Dec. 9. The menu will feature Swedish meatballs with noodles.

The party will begin at 1 p.m. with music and carol singing. Everyone will receive a gift during the reading of the Christmas story. Do not bring a gift, but canned goods for the food bank are welcome. Members should bring the total of their volunteer hours for the year.

There will be no meeting in January. The winter weather cancellation policy is to meet the following day, Tuesday, during December, February and March. Cancellations will be announced on radio WOXO, 92.7 or if school has been canceled.

Michaud to visit

BETHEL — The Oxford County Democrats will hold a potluck lunch and meeting at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, at Crescent Park School.

Congressman Mike Michaud will visit and offer an update.

Additional featured speakers will be former Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap of Old Town and State Rep. Jon Hinck of Portland. In addition, local incumbent legislators and county officials will attend, along with a number of 2012 candidates and those considering a run for office.

Business items will include election of a member of the Maine Democratic State Committee and a member of the Platform Committee, as well as information on the March 2012 caucuses to be held throughout the county.

Those attending are asked to bring a food item to share, such as a hot dish, sandwich fixings, salads or dessert item, as well as a canned or packaged donation for the local food pantry.
