LEWISTON — The Maine Community Foundation in partnership with College for ME-Androscoggin announces a new scholarship, the Thomas W. and Beulah Long Musgrave Fund Scholarship. This scholarship provides support for tuition and fees for adult learners who are enrolled in an accredited program of study leading to a degree, certification or similar recognition. College for ME-Androscoggin will distribute $10,000 each year in Musgrave Fund Scholarships for the next three years to adult students who reside in Androscoggin County.

Adult learners are students who do not go to college directly from high school and often have a significant gap between high school and entering college. Preference is given to those for whom the scholarship would make a significant difference in their ability to attend school. Scholarship recipients may reapply once for this scholarship if they are in good academic standing at their college at the time of reapplication.

College for ME-Androscoggin will award five $1000 scholarships to adult students residing in Androscoggin County for the semester or term beginning after Jan. 1. There will be another round of scholarships announced in the spring for the fall 2012 semester.

Eligible adult students must have resided in Maine for the previous five years, currently reside in Androscoggin County, demonstrate financial need and good character as well as a seriousness of purpose.

College for ME-Androscoggin is a local nonprofit working on college access and attainment initiatives in Androscoggin County. The Maine Community Foundation partners with donors and nonprofits to strengthen Maine communities.

Application deadline is Dec. 12. Applications are available at www.collegeformeandroscoggin.org/adults/money-for-college/scholaships, by contacting College for ME-Androscoggin at 753-6556 or at area college financial aid offices.
