FRANKLIN, Tenn. — Patrick D. Harkins, 52, formerly of Lewiston, died unexpectedly Nov. 2, at his home in Franklin, Tenn.
He was born in Lewiston, attended local schools, graduating from Lewiston High School, 1977, where he was active in the school band, serving as band president his senior year. He studied business administration at the University of Maine at Augusta.
After his studies, he began a long career in health care at St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, where he worked as a phlebotomist. Career advancement led him to management positions at Malden Hospital and New England Pathology Services, both in the greater Boston, Mass., area. He served for the last 13 years as vice president of content development at Passport Health Communications, a medical software solutions business, based in Franklin, Tenn.
He was an expert in the area of health care regulatory compliance, a subject on which he consulted and published in numerous industry journals. He was an active member of numerous health care management associations, including the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and the American Association of Health Care Management.
Son of the late Doris Bisaillon-Harkins, he is survived by his father, David Harkins of Lewiston; his brother, Chris Harkins; sister-in-law, Gail Harkins; beloved niece, Melanie Harkins, all of Somerville, Mass.; and sister, Julie Harkins of Seattle, Wash.
