AUGUSTA – A tent was set on fire this afternoon at the Capitol Park encampment of Occupy Augusta, according to a press release issued by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The 8-foot by 12-foot homemade, A-frame tent was destroyed and fire investigators said the fire was intentional, according to the release issued by Stephen McCausland, the spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
“Occupants of the encampment reported the fire as they were returning from a protest at the near-by corner of Capitol and State streets late in the afternoon,” the release stated. “No one was in the encampment at the time of the fire, which was extinguished by the Augusta Fire Department.”
The destroyed tent had not been lived in for over a week and no one was injured in the blaze, according to the release.
