AUBURN — New Hampshire and Massachusetts are a little more condo, Maine’s a little more farmhouse.

That’s one early regional flooring difference Lumber Liquidators’ store manager Justin Lopriore says he’s spotted. The chain opened its third store in Maine on Nov. 11 in the Auburn Plaza between Dollar Tree and Auburn Plaza Family Dentist.

“Up here hickory is really popular, and Australian cypress” with knots and light and dark striations, Lopriore said. “They have farmhouses, they like the look of pine but it’s a little soft.”

In Shrewsbury, Mass. and Nashua, N.H., he said, he saw customers favor more uniform shades. “Up here, it’s more like variations. I’m still learning.”

Lumber Liquidators sells several types of flooring — hardwood, engineered, laminate — along with stair parts and butcher blocks. It also has e-deals: Closeout, clearance and limited stock that invite customers to email an offer.

The empty plaza space was rebuilt into a new showroom and warehouse. The store has two employees. Lopriore plans to hire one more. He works with local companies for installation services.

Lumber Liquidators also has stores in Scarborough and Brewer. It was a corporate decision to open here. Lopriore said he’s been happy with the foot traffic so far.

“They definitely thought this was a good area to be,” he said.
