For more than 40 years, Black Mountain of Maine has been acknowledged as one of the finest Nordic skiing facilities for recreation and competition in North America. Black Mountain’s trails were developed by Rumford’s Chummy Broomhall, a two-time Olympian, designer of the Lake Placid and Squaw Valley Olympic cross-country trails and Nordic snow grooming pioneer. Black Mountain has hosted many of today’s U.S. Olympic Team skiers as the site of the 2003, 2004 and 2011 Chevrolet U.S. Cross Country Championships, as well as many other noteworthy regional races. Black Mountain looks forward to the honor of hosting the championships again in 2012.

Black Mountain of Maine’s 17 kilometers of trails, with snowmaking on four kilometers, have something to offer for all abilities. Trails are groomed for both skating and classic techniques. During competitions, the spectator bridge at the lodge provides a great vantage point to view, cheer, and take photos. We also welcome snowshoers on our trail system, which is a great way for the family to get out and explore the forest together.
