SCARBOROUGH — James H. Logan Sr., 86, died peacefully on Dec. 5, at the Maine Veterans’ Home.
He was born in Attleboro, Mass., Aug. 15, 1925, the first of four children born to the late James George and Irene (Bussiere) Logan. He was raised and educated in Attleboro, Mass. While attending Attleborough High School, he starred on the baseball and basketball teams. James enlisted in the Navy when he turned 18 and served four years during World War II.
When he returned from the war, Jim started his career with the Balfour Co. in Attleborough, Mass. He later worked for Jostens, selling class rings, diplomas and class yearbooks to high schools and colleges across Maine. While with Jostens, Jim settled in Lewiston with his wife, Muriel and raised his children. During the 45 years he spent in the community, Jim enjoyed playing golf with his many friends at such local courses including Martindale, Fairlawn, Prospect Hill and Poland Spring.
He was an avid Red Sox fan since his childhood. He passed this passion for baseball to his son, while coaching him as a little leaguer in the Elliott Avenue League and being his ever-present supporter at his baseball games through high school and American Legion.
Jim and Muriel moved to Buxton and resided with their daughter and son-in-law. Later Jim was a resident at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Scarborough.
James is survived by Muriel (Mutlow) Logan, his beloved wife of 63 years; his children, James H. Logan Jr. of Hudson, Mass., and Jill E. Logan of Buxton; his two grandchildren, Jacqueline and John Logan of Sudbury, Mass.; son-in law, Manuel Williams; his brother, John “Jack” Logan and his wife, Pearl, of Mashpee, Mass.; along with several nieces and nephews.
Jim was the beloved brother of the late Rita Ireland and the late Raymond Logan.
