LEWISTON — The Lewiston Public Library has a new Kindle Fire e-reader available for members to try out during the holiday season. The new device can be viewed and evaluated at the library’s second floor Adult Services Desk.

In order to make the device available to as many citizens as possible before the holidays, it may only be used inside the library during the month of December. The public is invited to come and give it a test drive to see if it is the right gift for readers on their shopping list. Beginning Jan. 3, the Kindle Fire will be available to borrow and take home just like the other e-readers in the LPL collections.

The e-reader devices currently available for a two-week library loan include Kindle2, a Nook, a Nook Color and two Sony Readers. These are also available at the Adult Services Desk where library staff can provide a brief orientation prior to the loan. These e-readers come preloaded with a number of popular books.

For library cardholders who already own an e-reader, LPL offers free downloadable e-books (and audiobooks) in many formats. Go to lplonline.org/ebooks to learn more.

For more details on the library’s e-books program, contact the Adult Services Desk at 513-3135 or [email protected].
