NORWAY — George A. Parady Sr., of Gray, slipped so quickly to heaven on Dec. 8.

George was born to George and Elizabeth (Johnson) Parady in Worchester, Mass. on Jan. 11, 1929.

George attended Gorham School and graduated from Gorham High School. Joining the U.S. Navy right out of high school, he served during the Korean Conflict, through Viet Nam, and retired in 1973.

George married his sweetheart Ellen Kimball in July 1952. They were married 59-plus years. After retirement from the Navy, George managed the Merry Manor Inn in South Portland and later the Coastline Inn in Auburn. After retiring from that business he got into delivering things — Meals on Wheels for C.C., children for SAD 15 and plenty of parts for Mr. Dunn at the local NAPA store. George never hesitated to step up and offer help, a ride, a coffee and newspaper, a game of cribbage or silent company.

George will be remembered for his compassion for his fellow man, and country, and for his constant vigil over my mom as she suffered through the stages of Alzheimer’s. His love for dogs was very evident, remembering by name every one he’d had since being a young boy in Gorham.

George was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Louise Parady Parsons; and his wife, Ellen, just five weeks ago.

He is survived by his brother, Richard Parady of Gorham, daughters, Cynthia E. Carter of Hampton, Va., and Joanne and husband, Ken Swenson, of Hebron; five grandchildren, Toby and Christopher Reynolds of Hayes, Va., and Joshua, Andria and Nate Swenson of Hebron; and five great-grandchildren, Ashleigh, Madison and Angel Reynolds of Gloucester, Mass., and Jack and Max Swenson of Hebron.
