Dirigo 67, Boothbay 52

BOOTHBAY HARBOR — Cody St. Germain scored 11 of his game-high 22 points in the fourth quarter Saturday night, pointing three-time defending Western Class C champion Dirigo to a 67-52 victory over Boothbay in its MVC boys’ basketball season-opener.

Boothbay trailed by only six points midway through the third quarter before Dirigo pulled away.

Caleb Turner added 13 points for the Cougars. Anthony DiMauro sparked the Seahawks with 18 points. Ben Dickinson contributed 10.

Greenville 48, Rangeley 40

RANGELEY — Greenville took 20 of its 24 free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter Saturday, leading to a 23-8 rally and a 48-40 victory over Rangeley in the teams’ EWC boys’ basketball opener.

Although Greenville sank only half those tries, the repeated visits to the line helped them overcome a nine-point deficit at the end of the third period.

Tristan Richards was 5-for-6 from the stripe in the fourth quarter, finishing with 10 points. Matt D’Angelo added six of his 13 points in the period.

Howie Stone had all eight of Greenville’s points in the third quarter and wound up with a game-high 15.

A.J. Elmes and Alex Morton each scored 13 points for Rangeley, which led 27-17 at the half. Morton hauled down nine rebounds.

Spruce Mountain 54, St. Dom’s 37

JAY — Senior forward Nate Shink drained a game-high 16 points to lift Spruce Mountain to a 54-37 victory over St. Dom’s in boys’ basketball action Saturday.

The Phoenix (1-0) held the Saints (0-1) to 10 points in the second half and pulled away for the win in their first-ever MVC contest as a consolidated school.

Zach Bonnevie contributed 12 points, while James Barker pitched in 10 for the Phoenix. Senior guard Joe Bryant posted a team-high 12 points for St. Dom’s.

Girls’ basketball

Rangeley 59, Greenville 34

RANGELEY — Freshman Taylor Esty scored 22 points and tore down 12 rebounds Saturday, propelling Rangeley to a 59-34 EWC girls’ basketball victory over Greenville.

Seve Deery-DeRaps, also a ninth-grader, added nine points and four steals for the host Lakers.

Chantal Carrier chalked up nine points and eight rebounds. Jenney Abbott reeled in a dozen boards for Rangeley, which jumped out to leads of 23-11 and 42-15 at the first two quarter checkpoints.

Miranda Drinkwater dropped 11 points and Michaella Gilbert turned in 10 for Greenville.

NYA 36, Hebron 19

HEBRON — North Yarmouth Academy shut out Hebron in the first quarter and rolled to a 36-19 girls’ basketball victory.

Charlotte Escancy scored 12 points and Morgan Scully added eight for NYA (2-0), which led 12-0 early and went up 23-7 at halftime. Olivia Brown led Hebron with eight points.

Girls’ hockey

Leavitt/EL 7, St. Dom’s 2

LEWISTON — Taylor Landry scored a hat trick Saturday and powered the Leavitt/Edward Little Red Hornets past St. Dom’s, 7-2, in girls’ hockey at Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

Emma Martineau scored two goals and Danica Nadeau added a goal and two assists for the Red Hornets (2-2). Amanda Williams also had a goal and Sidney Nadeau doled out two assists in support of winning goalie Tori Sanford.

Kayla McLellan scored both goals for the Saints (0-4).

Leavitt 5, Fryeburg/Lake Region 3

BRIDGTON — Junior right wing Tyler Hutchinson netted an impressive four goals to lead Leavitt to a 5-3 victory over Fryeburg/Lake Region in boys’ ice hockey Saturday.

Ian Durgin and Korey Mulherin provided strong defensive play for the Hornets (1-0).

Fryeburg goalie Paule Cucpanovic fended off 38 shots and kept the Ice Cats (0-1) in the contest through two tough periods before the Hornets solved their defenses and collected three third-period tallies.

Leavitt goalie Nick Allen turned away 16 shots for Hornets to earn the win in the season opener.

Poland/G-NG 2, Bonny Eagle 1

GORHAM — Evan Baggs scored the tying goal in the third period and then the game-winner with 50 seconds remaining in overtime Saturdyay, pushing Poland/Gray-New Gloucester to a 2-1 boys’ hockey win over Bonny Eagle at USM Ice Arena.

Adam Healy assisted the winning goal. Baggs scored unassisted eight second into the third period to pull the Patriotic Knights (1-0) even. Calvin Shelley made seven of his 26 saves in overtime for Poland/G-NG.

Josh Bagley gave the Scots the lead in the second period with an unassisted goal. Garrett McElrath made 21 stops.
