Cards for soldiers

BETHESDA, Md. — Send a wounded soldier a Christmas card. When filling out Christmas cards this year, take one card, or more, and send to: A Recovering American Soldier, c/o Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, 8901 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, Md., 20889-5600. This is a small way to say thank you to those who have sacrificed so much.

Coats for Kids

FARMINGTON — Franklin Savings Bank’s Farmington location sponsored Coats for Kids Day on Dec. 3. Collection boxes at all Franklin Savings Bank locations are available through Dec. 30.

In addition to the main office in Farmington, Franklin Savings Bank will have collection boxes at its locations in Jay, Rangeley, Skowhegan, Rumford, Mexico and Wilton as well as Western Mountain Financial Services on Front Street in Farmington.

RUMFORD — The Rumford Historical Society and the Mexico Historical Society will hold a joint Christmas potluck supper at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at the Calvin Lyons Room in the basement of the Mexico Town Hall. Each member is asked to bring a favorite holiday casserole, salad or dessert to share. Beverage and table service will be provided. Guests and the public are also invited.

The building is handicapped accessible, and there is ample parking at the rear of the building.

In lieu of a gift exchange the two boards felt it would more appropriate to do something for the community this year. Therefore, all members are asked to bring a donation of nonperishable food items which will be donated to the local food pantry.

Class of 1963

DIXFIELD — The Front Porch Cafe will host the Stephens High School Class of 1963 at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16. Classmates, friends and family are invited. Call 364-8416 for additional information.

RUMFORD — A salmon and meat pie supper will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at the Rumford Elks Lodge, 60 River St.

Cookies, gift wrap

DIXFIELD — The Dirigo High School sophomore Class of 2014 will hold a cookie sale and gift wrapping fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, in the Dirigo High School cafeteria.

Gorizia Lodge

RUMFORD — The Gorizia Lodge 467 will hold its monthly meeting at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, at the lodge on Route 108. Following the meeting, a potluck supper will be held for members and guests.

Winter concert

BETHEL — The 14th annual Telstar Music Department Winter Concert will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, in the Helen Berry Auditorium at Telstar High School.

There will be performances by the high school chorus and concert band, the middle school chorus and band, along with a solo performance featuring Emily Bellinger, who was recently accepted into the Maine All State Vocal Festival.

Admission is free but donations are always greatly appreciated. All donations collected will go towards student end of the year awards.

Neighborly Seniors

MEXICO — Neighborly Senior Citizens will meet Tuesday, Dec. 20, at the Calvin P. Lyons room at the Mexico Town Office. The meeting will start at 11 a.m. followed by a potluck dinner. Members are asked to bring items for a Chinese auction and food sale.

2012 membership cards are ready. Neighborly Senior Citizens is open to anyone aged 50 and over. Dues are $10 per year.

Anyone wishing to go to Indian Head on Saturday, March 17, for the annual St. Patrick’s show are asked to sign up now. Call Connie at 364-4189 with any questions or to sign up.
