Spruce Mountain 39, Lisbon 22

LISBON —   Eleven different players hit the scoring column and Spruce Mountain’s defense held Lisbon to only one third quarter point as the Phoenix rolled to a 39-22 victory Monday in MVC girls’ basketball action.

Leading 22-14 entering the third quarter, Spruce Mountain stepped up its defense, stifling Lisbon to lead the Greyhounds 31-15 through three quarters.

Senior Alexi Deering and freshman Nicole Hamblin paced the Phoenix (2-0) with seven points each. Hamblin also had a three pointer. Emily Taylor, Kathryn Ventrella, and Kristi Macomber all sank 3-point baskets in the win.

Bailey Madore led Lisbon (0-2) with seven points. Sarah Giraldo added five.

Hall-Dale 45, St. Dom’s 30

AUBURN —   Hall-Dale used a decisive 13-2 third quarter to pull away from St. Dom’s for a 45-30 victory in girls high school basketball action.

Leading 17-14 at the half, the Bulldogs (2-0) used sharp shooting and an improved transition game to shut down the Saints in the third quarter.

Senior forward Carylanne Wolfington netted 18 points, including a pair of 3-point baskets to pace Hall-Dale. Wendy Goldman added 17 points.

McKenzie Roy led St. Dom’s (0-2) with 10 points. Mary Caron chipped in six.

Monmouth 50, Winthrop 20

WINTHROP —   Monmouth jumped out to a 22-5 lead in the first half and never looked back en route to a 50-20 rout of Winthrop.

Monmouth used solid execution on offense and their physical play early on set the the tone for the Mustangs (2-0).  Sophomore Kylie Kemp led all scorers with 15 points while fellow teammate Kristine Kahl chipped in with 14. Cat Ouellette and Liz Glover each had five and four points respectively for the Ramblers (0-2).

Pine Tree Academy 48, Hebron 33

HEBRON —   Pine Tree Academy shook off a three-point deficit after one quarter and rolled to a 48-33 triumph over Hebron in girls high school basketball.

Hebron opened the game with 16 first-quarter points. Pine Tree Academy (1-1) answered by shutting the Lumberjacks down with a 15-6 second quarter, allowing only 17 points total in the final three quarters.

Gentilly Sanchez led all scorers with 31 points for the Breakers. Jenna Cote and Olivia Brown paced Hebron (0-2) with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Hockey

Brunswick 2, Lewiston 1

BRUNSWICK —   Annie Kelly scored off a pass from Rachel Moroney at the 13:23 mark of the third period to lift Brunswick to a 2-1 victory over Lewiston in a girls’ hockey clash.

Lewiston’s Mikaela Brown opened the scoring just over five minutes into the game scoring on an assist from Ashley Chase. Eliza Brooks followed less than eight minutes later for the Dragons (4-1-1) with a power-play goal assisted by Moroney and Kelly.

Paige Fontaine stopped 18 of 20 shots in net for Lewiston (2-3-1). Brunswick keeper Clair Mendes turned away 26 Blue Devil shots.

Boys’ Basketball

Telstar 59, Mt. Abram 33

SALEM — Danny Whitney scored eight of his 21 points in the third quarter Monday, helping Telstar break open a 59-33 MVC boys’ basketball win over Mt. Abram.

Telstar (1-1) led 11-10 after one quarter and 25-16 at the half before padding the lead to 17 at the end of three.

Nick Mills added 11 points for the Rebels. Ian James led the Roadrunners (0-1) with 14 points. Tyler Hupper had 12.
