RUMFORD — Black Mountain of Maine is gearing up to host its annual snowmobile hill climb Saturday.

Jim Carter, general manager, says the mountain has made enough snow to have a successful hill climb this year despite recent warm temperatures.

The extended forecast for Saturday is calling for temperatures in the mid-20s with partial clouds which should give racers optimal conditions for the event.

The lodge will open at 1 p.m. for last-minute registration and bib pickup, and the race will start at 3 p.m.

The event generally draws more than 100 contestants of all ages and includes several classes of races based on snowmobile engine size.

The event costs $15 for preregistrants and $20 for those registering the day of the event.

Admission at the gate for spectators and riders is $5 for those 13 and older, $3 for children ages 6 to 12; and free for children ages 5 and younger.

Carter said racers are encouraged to register early by calling 364-8977 or visiting www.skiblackmountain.org.

Following the race there will be live entertainment by the band Stereo-type starting at 7 p.m. at the lodge.
