LEWISTON — Russell A. “Russ” Footer, 77, a resident of Pond Road, died Monday, Dec. 12, at his residence, following a long illness with his loving family by his side.

He was born Dec. 23, 1933, in Lewiston, the son of Bert and Myrtle (Bickford) Footer. He was married to the former Connie (Constance) Grenier and together they had five children.

Russ was a mason contractor from the age of 17, working for his father in their family business, retiring at the age of 70. He was well-known throughout the Lewiston-Auburn area for the creative design and his exquisite workmanship. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, beekeeping and gardening in his spare time. His most favorite place of all was going to and spending time at the family camp in Mount Vernon.

Survivors include his loving companion, Joanne Cole of Bethel; his three daughters, Sheila McCormick of Old Orchard Beach, Wanda Pierpont and her husband, David, of Saco and Brenda Sawyer and her husband, Richard, of Minot; two sons, Rodney Footer and his wife, Karen, of Saco and Gary Footer and his wife, Robin, of Lewiston; three brothers, David Footer and his wife, Annette, of Auburn, Daniel Footer and his partner, Joannie Knightly, of Poland and Kenneth Footer of Lewiston; and one sister, Teddy Milliken and her husband, Bruce, of Lewiston; eight grandchildren, Kyle McCormick, Christopher Footer, Alicia Footer, Scott Footer, Katherine Sawyer, Benjamin Sawyer, Jennifer Pierpont and Kate Pierpont; many nieces and nephews; his two cats, Blackie and Marmalade; as well as his pet chipmunk, who resides in a stone wall.

He was predeceased by his parents.
