FARMINGTON — Margaret Mary “Peg” Ploof, 83, of Wilton, died peacefully on Friday, Dec. 9, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

She was born Feb. 1, 1928, in Melrose, Mass., daughter of Henry Russell and Mary Veronica (Fahey) Grubb. She graduated from Melrose High School and pursued voice lessons at the New England Conservatory of Music, where she met the love of her life, Gene Ploof, whom she married on Feb. 3, 1951, in Wakefield, Mass.

Together, they raised two daughters, Kathy and Lynn and lived in Berwick, until they moved to Rochester, N.H. in 1984, retiring to Wilton in 2001. When her daughters were older, Peg worked as a substitute teacher and was a secretary for several businesses and organizations. Curious by nature, she approached life with sincerity and directness and was always interested in the lives of those she loved.

She was a member of the Friendship Squares, Tyngtown Club, Wiltona Club and W.O.W. (Widows of Wilton). She volunteered at the Wilton Early Childhood Center and until 2009, had been one of the oldest members of the UMF Community Chorus, continuing to pursue her joy of singing. She also supported the Sandy River Players and the Wilton Free Public Library. Peg played the piano up until the last day of her life, was a great card player, loved to cook and enjoyed the holidays and entertaining. She loved all music and all musical performances. She was a great audience.

Survivors include her two daughters, Katherine J. (Katrina) Ploof of Orlando, Fla., and Lynn Ploof-Davis and her husband, Stephen Davis, of Wilton; her brother-in-law, Elwin Ploof and his wife, Irene, of Zephyrhills, Fla.; one niece, Mary MacFarland of Cushing; and two joys of her life, grandsons who affectionately call her “Nana,” Eli J. Davis and Zachary P. Davis, both of Wilton.

Peg was predeceased by her husband, Gene on May 8, 2007; and her brother, Russell Grubb on Dec. 23, 2010.

You are invited to share condolences and tributes with her family on her memorial wall at www.wilesrc.com.
