LEWISTON — Janine M. Pierce, 86, of Lewiston, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 8.
With the exception of a few trips to Montana, mom called Maine home for the better part of her life. Times away included a chance to care for grandchildren as a home was being built, and another with thoughts of pulling up stakes and giving the West a go. The call of her larger family however was too much to stay away from for too long and so back to her roots she would return.
She was the last of four to grace the world of Marquis. Janine was born in 1925, on a small farm in Frenchville on the eve of the “Great Depression.” Like many families, much was lost during that time, her horse, King, the house and barn. At the age of 16, she and her family made the move to Lewiston.
It was there she met Doc, married and had one son, David. Memories of their lives together come from a time spanning less than a decade. Dad died in 1965, but by all accounts, Mom and Dad adored each other and cherished the short time they would share.
Wanting a large family life for her son, Mom jumped at opportunities to foster that experience. The camp on Sabattus gave her the country life she loved and time to spend with Eva and Bob and their family. The house on College, saw many a bean supper, holidays, and family gatherings. Her days were complete when her home was filled with the love of her nieces and nephews (siblings for her son).
Not one to relax after years of working and always wanting to help. Mom could be seen walking to town with a dust cloud behind her, more than likely headed to help serve communion at St. Peter’s Church on the weekend or off to St. Mary’s Hospital to help where needed. She loved gallivanting with her sister, the two were nearly inseparable.
With her continued devotion, Mom returned to be with her Lord on Dec. 8. She looked forward in reuniting with her Mom and Dad, sister Eva, brothers Fernand and Majello, and husband Doc.
She leaves behind a son, David, his wife, Wendy; two grandchildren, Sarah and Risa; and countless nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to the staff of 3 East at d’Youville Pavilion. Your care and compassion for Mom will always be remembered.
Mom, Je t’aime beaucoup. Au revoir mon petit chou.
