LAKELAND, Ga. — Isabel Stewart, 85, formerly of Rangeley, passed away Dec. 12, at the Lakeland Villa Convalescent Home with two of her daughters at her side.
Isabel was born Aug. 2, 1926, a daughter of Errol John and Dorothy Teresa (Brown) Haley.
She was born and brought up in Rangeley Plantation, graduated from Rangeley High School, and married her husband, Hazen in January 1947. They spent most of their 30-plus years in the Rangeley area where they raised seven children. After the passing of “Haze,” Isabel remained in the area until she met her companion of more than 12 years, Rodney Miller. They resided between Portland and their camp in North New Portland until Rodney’s passing.
Isabel was a quiet, soft spoken lady who loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a volunteer who never had to be asked twice to lend a hand. She would often be seen walking about and making sure to say ‘hi’ to everyone just to brighten their day.
She was a member of the Rangeley American Legion and The Church of the Good Shephard in Rangeley.
In the last decade or so of her life, she moved to Georgia, to be with two of her daughters. There she loved to go to flea markets, bingo and was even known to go fishing and could land any fish that took her line.
She is survived by all her children, daughters, Shirley Herbert and husband, George, of Rangeley, Susan Simon and husband, Milt, of Durham and Lucille (Flossy) Stewart and Nancy Stewart, both of Lakeland, Ga.; sons, Rupert Stewart and his wife, Jean, of Valdez, Alaska, Neil Stewart and his wife, Roberta and Glendon Stewart, all of Rangeley; seven grandchildren, Barbara Stewart, Jennifer Herbert Stout, George Herbert, Neil Stewart Jr., Christina Stewart, Shane Stewart and Nichole Kiser; six great-grandchildren; her brother, George “Huck” Haley and wife, Carol; sisters, Margie Mathys and her husband, Charley, Elaine Moody and her husband, Bob, Betty Millbury and her husband, Donald, Virginia White and her husband, Ralph and Beverly Hill and her husband, Richard; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Lucille Richard; her brother, Jack Haley; and grandson, David Stewart.
