BETHEL — Zack Bonnevie sank a 3-pointer with just over four minutes remaining for the lead and Spruce Mountain hit some key free throws down the stretch as the Phoenix came back and defeated Telstar 51-42 in an MVC boys’ basketball game Monday.
After a low scoring first quarter that had Spruce Mountain leading 6-5, Telstar put together a pair of solid quarters, to lead 21-19 at the half and 31-25 entering the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Spruce Mountain (4-0) used a 26-11 advantage to seal the victory. Bonnevie’s 3-point basket put the Phoenix ahead for good.
Senior guard Jake Bessey led all scores with 15 points, including one from behind the arc. James Barker chipped in with 11 points, including five free throws. Bonnevie finished with nine points.
Dom Haines paced the Rebels (1-3) with 10 points. Danny Whitney and Corey Howard followed with eight points apiece.
Girls’ basketball
Mountain Valley 59, Carrabec 30
RUMFORD — Ayla Allen poured in a game high 23 points to help lead Mountain Valley to a 59-30 rout of Carrabec in an MVC girls’ basketball clash.
The senior also hauled down eight rebounds and sank three 3-point baskets in the victory. Chrissy Briggs followed with 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds. The senior guard also sank three 3-point baskets for the Falcons (4-0). Makayla White chipped in with seven points.
Skyla Murray paced the Cobras (1-3) with six points, followed by Jocelyn Jackson’s five points. Three other players finished with four points apiece for Carrabec.
Lisbon 34, Wiscassett 32
WISCASSET — Trailing by four points heading into the fourth quarter, Lisbon stepped up with some key rebounds and tight defense to come from behind and defeat Wiscasset 34-32 in girls’ basketball.
Jessica Campbell led the Greyhounds (2-2) with 10 points. The senior also hauled down nine rebounds and had eight steals in the victory. Denise Thomas also scored 10 points and grabbed 12 boards for Lisbon. Alexa Harmon chipped in with nine points, including one from behind the arc.
Kayla Connors paced Wiscasset (0-4) with 10 points, while Darolyn Footer sank a trio of 3-point baskets and finished with nine points in the loss.
