RUMFORD — Mountain Valley High School sophomore Abbey Pinkham was selected to attend the Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership program as an ambassador in early June. Ambassadors are chosen based on their potential to lead others.

Pinkham demonstrates her leadership skills in Peer Helpers, Student Council and as sophomore class secretary. She plays soccer and tennis and gives back to the community by helping with GRCC soccer and recreation soccer.

“Abbey is a conscientious student who gets involved with school activities,” said Christopher Decker, vice principal. “In all she does, she thinks about people around her – an important leadership skill.”

Decker, along with Jim Ippolito, guidance counselor; and Dorothy Peters, English teacher; selected the HOBY ambassador.

According to the website, HOBY programs provide unique leadership training, service-learning and motivation-building experiences. Nearly 9,000 students participate in HOBY programs each year.

Founded in 1958, HOBY’s mission is “to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation.”
