RUMFORD — During a recent school-wide assembly, co-presidents of the Student Council, Cam Welch and Cody Smith, announced the Teacher of the Term, Kristen Provencher.

In presenting the award, the co-presidents said, “This term’s teacher of term is hardworking. Her determination and work ethic are shown not only through her work in teaching health but also her work with Peer Helpers and girls’ varsity lacrosse. She is loved by students and faculty. We are pleased to call Mrs. Provencher to the stage.”

With a huge smile, Provencher accepted the award and thanked students. When interviewed later, she said, “It’s an honor and it’s great to know the students appreciate me. I love teaching health because I have the opportunity to meet every student in the school. Also, it’s fantastic to teach health because I’ve never had a student say ‘why do I have to learn this.’ They see the relevance to their lives.”

Provencher joined the MVHS in 2007 as a health teacher. She earned a bachelor’s degree in community health from University of Maine at Farmington in 2006. Currently, she is working on a master’s in public health at University of New England. Provencher graduated from Mountain Valley High School in 2002.

Outside of school, Provencher spends time with her husband and two-year-old son.

Every six weeks, students at Mountain Valley High School select a teacher or staff member to honor.
