STRONG — Mt. Abram High School has announced that this year’s Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen is Jazmin Knapp, daughter of Dean and Beverly Knapp of Freeman Township.

The DAR Good Citizen Program is sponsored by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and locally by the Colonial Daughters Chapter which is located in Farmington. Jazmin exemplifies the qualities of a DAR Good Citizen which are: dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. She also has had an active high school career, which includes academic excellence, volunteering and participation in community activities.

Throughout her years at Mt. Abram High School Jazmin has been a member of the LEO’s Club (she was selected as the 2010 State of Maine’s “LEO of the Year”), the Mt. Abram Regional High School National Honor Society and the Girls’ Book Club.

In the local communities she participates in the Community Playhouse Misfits, where she has been an actress, choreographer and set designer, and she is a singer and assistant pianist in the Occasional Choir at the United Methodist Church. She is also actively involved in Relay for Life events and volunteers at the United Economic Ministry and the Franklin-Somerset Federal Credit Union.

At the United Methodist Economic Ministry she is a volunteer worker as well as a volunteer in the Food Pantry. She organizes Cinderella’s Closet and has created a small, nonprofit business (Hats and Hoots, Etc.) to benefit the Food Pantry. During her junior year she was a Girls’ State delegate, attending a week-long conference at Husson University. While there she was awarded “Outstanding Girl” in her Town of Humility. She was also elected as a representative to the House of Representatives.

In addition during all four years of high school she has been on the Mt. Abram High School honor roll.
