LIVERMORE FALLS — The Jay Livermore falls Lions club hosted District Governor Tony Arruda and other esteemed Lion brothers and sisters on Nov. 15 at the Chuck Wagon Restaurant.

Arruda shared his mission and reviewed what he understands as his role as the district governor, which includes visitation by himself and his vice district governors to all clubs in the district, which is the State of Maine District 41, made up of 83 clubs.

“Visitations are important to get to really know what is going on at the club level,” he said. “Without you, the individual clubs, there would be no us.”

Each Lions club in the state is planting a tree to participate in the world-wide “plant a million trees” effort proposed. Planting trees is a marvelous way for partnering with other nonprofit groups and with corporations.

Lion’s are volunteers and members of the largest volunteer service organization in the world striving to eliminate preventable blindness. Towards this goal, the group supports diabetes awareness and prevention, vision screening for glaucoma, macular degeneration and other common vision problems. Lions support community youth and elderly activities and strive to make each community a better place to live.
