NORWAY —The State Fire Marshal’s Office said a 21-year-old South Paris man has been charged with arson in connection with a fire that damaged a Norway house earlier this month. Three people were sleeping inside at the time.

Fire Investigator Danny Young today charged Andrew Freeman with arson, two counts of aggravated attempted murder and one count of burglary. Freeman was notified of the charges at the Androscoggin County Jail, where is was being held on an unrelated charge.

The Fire Marshal’s Office said Freeman broke into the house of Edgar McCloud at 684 Round The Pond Road in Norway on Dec. 5 in the predawn hours. Investigators say Freeman set a couple of fires inside the house and then left, while McCloud, his wife and granddaughter were asleep inside. The fire was discovered by McCloud, who put the fires out before serious damage took place. No one was injured.
