JAY — Frances Theresa Pineau Simoneau, 85, of Jay passed away at her home on Thursday, Dec. 29, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born May 10, 1926, in Chisholm, the daughter of Thomas and Sadie Veilleux Pineau. She attended school in Jay and during World War II was employed at International Paper Co. in the beater room.
On Jan. 27, 1945, she married Laurier Simoneau at St. Rose of Lima Church, Jay, and was a devoted homemaker and mother. They raised their family of four in their lifelong home town of Jay. Her husband of 60 years predeceased her on March 21, 2006.
She was involved in many activities and service groups; first, in her faith community where she was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, Jay, and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella. Additionally, she honored her husband’s military service and served as president of the Frank L. Mitchell VFW Auxiliary No. 3335.
Her skills as a seamstress allowed her to create many craft projects, dolls, clothing and sweaters for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed the game of golf and was a longtime member of the Wilson Lake Country Club. She served on the boards of many lady golf association events. “Fran” and “Larry” enjoyed 23 years in Zephyrhills, Fla.
Their four children survive her, Brenda Romano and her husband, Barry, of Livermore Falls, Debra Lambert and her husband, Bob, of Waterboro, Rick Simoneau and his wife, Lisa, and Jaye Simoneau and his wife, Tina, all of Jay; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ann Powers of Millinocket; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Elda Cote; and brothers. Gerard Pineau and Robert Pineau.
