RUMFORD — The Greater Rumford Community Center is hoping to offer a fun way to start your New Year’s resolutions.

The center is offering a four-week adult coed floor hockey league starting Jan. 8, Bob Anderson, program coordinator, said.

The program is free to members of the GRCC and if enough members participate in the league, a longer season will be planned, Cindrie Cormier, a board director, said.

“It’s great for those who have a New Year’s resolution to get in shape,” Cormier said. “It’s easy to get a workout in when it’s something that’s fun.”

Anderson says those interested need to register before Jan. 5.

“Once we have members registered we will announce a start time for Jan. 8,” Anderson said. “Games will be played on Sunday afternoons.”

The GRCC is also offering floor hockey to high school students who are members with a program fee of $25.

“We have a floor hockey league for students from second grade to eighth grade,” Anderson said. “It’s a popular program with seven teams in the league.”

Cormier said they hope interest is shown at the high school level for those who loved the sport when they played in middle school.

Anderson said they need approximately 28 students to register for the league to be successful and to have at least four teams to compete with each other.

“We have tried this in the past but it has gotten rough at the high-school level,” Anderson said.

He said this time around the GRCC will meet first with the students and explain that the games should be fun and not overly aggressive.

Students are required to register before Jan. 5 if they are interested in playing.

Anyone seeking information or wanting to register should contact the Greater Rumford Community Center at 369-9906.
