LEWISTON — Captive Elements Art House will host an opening reception on Friday, Jan. 6, for an exhibit of 60 works by artists Jeanelle Demers and Kerry Landry.
In 2009, Demers began her “200 Faces” project. “If I paint 200 portraits, charging only $150 each, I will make enough money to pay off my student loan,” she said. “In doing so, I hope to make art affordable, make art something that can be given as a meaningful gift, make art that is more than just a decoration and develop my skills and portfolio along the way.”
In the last year, Demers has also introduced landscapes, animals and airplanes in her artwork.
Landry paints ideas, thoughts and images teeming with personal interpretation. “Life is all about what I, we, experience in our waking hours, our dreams and in our fantasies,” the artist said.
“If I paint a person or place, it will have less to do with its exactness and more to do with its symbolic appeal and association,” he said.
Kerry has created more than 200 oil paintings in the last five years with vivid colors, broad brushstrokes and a hint of humorous dissent.
Demers and Landry have been involved with Captive Elements, Art Pulse, ArtVan, Gallery 5 and Art Walk Lewiston Auburn.
The reception will be from 7-9 p.m. at the art house at 223 Lisbon St. The exhibit will be on display Jan. 6-27.
