BOSTON — The New England Book Festival has announced the winners of its book awards and several Maine authors and publishers associated with the Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance have made the list.

Maureen Stanton of Georgetown won the coveted first-place award in the general nonfiction category for her book “Killer Stuff and Tons of Money.” James Witherell of Lewiston received an honorable mention in the biography/autobiography category for his “L. L. Bean: The Man and His Company,” published by the Gardiner-based Tilbury House Publishing.

And, Camden’s Jeff Foltz received an honorable mention in general fiction for his historical novel, “Birkebeiner,” published by the Rockland-based Maine Authors Publishing.

“We were pleased but not surprised to see MWPA members in the award results,” said Joshua Bodwell, executive director of the MWPA. “All three of these award-winning books have made an impression in Maine this year, so we’re thrilled the rest of New England is taking notice, too.”

Maine Authors Publishing also celebrated honorable mention awards for two books it published, “Togus: A Coon Cat Finds A Home,” by TV journalist Don Carrigan and illustrator Thomas Block; and “The Good,” by Kate Fox of Tenant’s Harbor.
