MADISON, Maine — A local woman cheated death Wednesday night when a pickup truck traveling more than twice the posted speed limit slammed into her car, according to police.

Angela Moody, 35, of Madison is recovering at a Bangor hospital and the pickup’s driver, Scott Frost, 24, of Norridgewock is behind bars on multiple charges, Madison Police Chief Barry Moores said.

“She took a pretty hard knock,” said Moores.

Moores said tests indicated that Frost was intoxicated, and a local resident had notified the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office that the man had nearly struck a residence on Finch Street.

The chief said Deputy Don Avery located the vehicle after the call came in, but before he could activate the lights and siren on his cruiser, Frost’s pickup smashed into Moody’s Buick sedan. Madison police and rescue personnel responded quickly.

The speed limit on Pine Street, where the collision took place, is 25 miles per hour, and Moores said Frost’s pickup was traveling 60 mph.

Moody suffered a broken foot and clavicle in the crash, and her vehicle’s air bag was deployed. She was taken by ambulance to Redington-Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan and transported by helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center. A hospital spokesman had no information on her condition Friday.

Frost was also taken to Redington-Fairview for treatment of minor cuts and bruises, and was subsequently released and arrested, Moores said. Results of his blood-alcohol test weren’t immediately available.

He faces felony charges of aggravated driving to endanger and operating under the influence, along with misdemeanor counts of reckless conduct, driving without a license and criminal speeding.

Moores said Frost was convicted of OUI in 2010.
